A lap joint flanges are one that slides directly over the pipe. These types of flanges are used in applications that call for regular dismantling. Lap joint flanges in India are basically two-piece devices that are very akin to loose slip-on flanges and weld neck flanges. Lap joint flanges are used a lot with stub-end fittings. The stub end will have a pipe welded to it and the lap end type of flange can thus freely rotate around the end of the stub. With this kind of arrangement, there is no issue experienced with bolt hole alignment. There are various advantages to using carbon steel lap joint flanges. One of these is that as a result of using such types of flanges, there is no contact with the fluid in the pipe. And this allows for the usage of inexpensive carbon steel flanges when corrosion-resistant pipes are used.
Another advantage to using lap joint flanges is that though they have a little pressure-holding capacity, it is much better than that of slip-on flanges. One of the biggest advantages of using a stainless steel lap joint flange is that this kind of flange is highly resistant to corrosion. Lap joint flanges made of stainless steel have an excellent life cycle and they are highly resistant to heat and cold temperatures. Stainless steel lap joint flanges are environment-friendly and are also 100% recyclable. The use of lap joint flanges allows for freedom of swiveling around the pipe and this, in turn, allows for the lining up of bolt holes of opposing flanges. Another big advantage to using lap joint flanges is that with this type of flange, it becomes possible to align the bolt holes with the matching flange, after completion of the welds.
Lap Joint Flanges are similar to other types of industrial Flanges, but it does not have a raised face. Lap joint Flanges are used in conjunction with a “Lap Joint Stub End”. The total initial cost of a lap joint Flanges along with a stub end is around one-third higher than that of comparable welding neck Flanges. The pressure holding capacity of lap joint Flanges is comparatively lower, and the fatigue life for the assembly is only one-tenth that of welding neck Flanges. The lap joint Flanges with the stub end assembly is normally used in piping systems that require regular dismantling for inspection and cleaning. These Flanges slip over the pipe and are not welded or otherwise fastened to it. Bolting pressure is transmitted to the gasket by the pressure of the Flanges against the back of the pipe lap (Stub End).
